Community

NWMNC is involved in many other projects that add value to the community.
Here are our current projects:

Container Deposit Scheme

Bring your eligible recyclables and receive cash refunds while helping the environment. Eligible containers include drink bottles, cans, cartons and containers with the deposit symbol. Our volunteers will guide you through the process. Call us on 9328 1126 to arrange a time for drop during the following CDS opening hours:

Mondays: 10am – 6pm
Tuesdays: 10am – 4pm
Wednesdays - Fridays: 10am - 3pm
Saturday: 10am – 2pm

Closed on Sundays and public holidays.

Wholefoods Unwrapped Collective

Wholefoods Unwrapped Collective has 400 products from 40 suppliers that are all local, low (or no) waste and low cost.

Every week staff volunteers portion their produce from bulk containers into stainless steel Returnr containers. Everything is packed in waste-free, returnable containers.

We have collaborated with WUC in this great initiative. If you're interested to buy through WUC, get in touch with us.

Assistance & Advocacy

We help our local community by being a source of information, offering assistance, advocating for them and supporting their diverse needs.

We understand that language should never be a barrier. That's why we're proud to have a diverse team of staff and volunteers who are fluent in multiple languages, including: Spanish, Vietnamese, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. If you need assistance in a language other than English, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Inter-generational Sports

Through a tournament of weekly friendly games of soccer, basketball and volleyball, this project aims to strengthen the relationships between young and middle-aged men living in North Melbourne public housing. The aim is to promote social connections, physical health, and sharing of life experiences between different age groups for mutual benefit.

International Students

We provide opportunities for international students to join in community activities, get work experience, and participate in volunteering activities.

Job Readiness

With the help of skilled and experienced trainers, participants work out why they want to work, what they want from employment, understand their value as a worker to a prospective employer and develop the confidence to present themselves. NWMNC ran with with Judy Lazarus Transition Centre for 12 years and in 2024 are presenting this with The Salvation Army.
