Assistance & Advocacy

We help our local community by being a source of information, offering assistance, advocating for them and supporting their diverse needs.

We understand that language should never be a barrier. That's why we're proud to have a diverse team of staff and volunteers who are fluent in multiple languages, including: Spanish, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.

If you need assistance in a language other than English, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Yoga for International Students and Seniors

Every Wednesday (from 4 March to 27 May 2026), participants will enjoy a 45-minute fun and relaxing yoga class suitable for all levels, taught by Caz Howard, a yoga teacher with 25 years of experience.

After each class, participants will take part in a 45-minute tea ceremony, opening up conversations about culture, memories, and daily life.

This initiative is designed to connect international students with local Melburnians through yoga classes and tea tastings.

Held at the well-known Estuary Yoga Space in the heart of North Melbourne’s Arden precinct.

Being A Melburnian

Run as a pilot in 2025, Being a Melburnian was developed by NWMNC with University of Melbourne international student Kevin Shi.

This unique program brings together international students and local seniors in a social support network.

Students new to Melbourne get a chance to meet "real" local people, learn local customs, practice English and make friends.

Seniors get a chance for meaningful interactions with younger people, get to share their knowledge and combat isolation.

With City of Melbourne funding, Being a Melburnian will commence again in August 2026.
