Assistance & Advocacy

We help our local community by being a source of information, offering assistance, advocating for them and supporting their diverse needs.

We understand that language should never be a barrier. That's why we're proud to have a diverse team of staff and volunteers who are fluent in multiple languages, including: Spanish, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic. If you need assistance in a language other than English, don't hesitate to get in touch with us.

Yoga for International Students and Seniors

Every Wednesday (from 4 March to 27 May 2026), participants will enjoy a 45-minute fun and relaxing yoga class suitable for all levels, taught by Caz Howard, a yoga teacher with 25 years of experience, at the well-known Estuary Yoga Space in the heart of North Melbourne’s Arden precinct.

After each class, participants will take part in a 45-minute tea ceremony, opening up conversations about culture, memories, and daily life. This initiative is designed to connect international students with local Melburnians through yoga classes and tea tastings.

Being A Melburnian

We provide opportunities for international students to join in community activities, get work experience, and participate in volunteering activities.

Job Readiness

With the help of skilled and experienced trainers, participants work out why they want to work, what they want from employment, understand their value as a worker to a prospective employer and develop the confidence to present themselves. NWMNC ran this program with Judy Lazarus Transition Centre for 12 years and are now presenting this with The Salvation Army.
